Lviv University - coordinator of the EU ERASMUS+ KA2 project "Teacher certification centers: innovative approaches to teaching excellence"

On December 11, 2020, a Grant Agreement was signed between the Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual Means and Culture (EASEA) of the European Commission and Ivan Franko Lviv National University, as the coordinator of the winning project of the project competition of the EU ERASMUS+ program in the direction "Development of the potential of higher education (CBHE) )” KA2 “Teacher Certification Centers: Innovative Approaches to Teaching Excellence” (UTTERLY).

The goal of the project is to promote the modernization of the higher education system in Ukraine, the introduction of university advanced training centers to promote European educational innovations through the professional certification of university teachers.

The main tasks of the project:

To modernize the system of professional development and certification of university teachers in Ukraine by creating 9 independent Centers of Excellence in Teaching (CECs) with their further integration into a network, which will allow to increase the level of quality of teaching in universities.
Introduce professional certification programs for university teachers based on best European practices and educational innovations to ensure teaching excellence.
Develop and pilot a new teaching excellence program, including course descriptions and MOOCs, which anticipates the needs of the academic environment in Ukraine and will lead to an increase in the quality of certification of the University's teachers.
The agreement stipulates that Lviv University is the grant recipient of the project, and the main activity of the project will begin on January 15, 2021. Also, the agreement specifies the basic conditions for the performance of works within the framework of the project, a description of the partnership, the budget and aspects of project financing, and technical details of project management.

Despite the fact that the start of the project is planned for January 2021, the development of this direction at Lviv University has been going on for a long time. In particular, Lviv University is currently implementing the LEARNOPOLIS project, which is aimed at more active implementation and effective use of digital technologies and tools in the educational process, and the "Program for the Improvement of Teaching in Higher Education", which is being implemented by the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in partnership with the British Council in Ukraine, with the participation of the British agency "Advance HE" and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education, where Lviv University is one of the participants.

In the same context, it is worth mentioning the introduction of the course "Improving teaching skills", which began in September 2020 and aims to improve teaching skills through the implementation of active learning methods, the development of blended learning skills and the use of information technologies.
